From top to bottom, these are: Keyboard, Sinclair port 1, Kempston (if fitted), three Graphics sets, and Start game." 1 "Hello and wolcome tee the solly scriller of Sloughtly Minic. I bit you thonk this is finny, but spooking for mooself, I am gutting a bat tired of it. So lot's gut bick to nearmal. (I told you it was the solly, er, silly scroller.)" 1 "27693+lv*35" 1 "1. Ultimate are no more, for 'big' read money, `50 cartridges and huge profits, people with more sense than money owning Arcs, Risc PCs and Spectrums (or Sam Coupes), and people with more money than sense owning PCs, Amigas, STs or consoles." 1 " Nasty if this happens to split the playing area into separate areas... and there's a tile on one side which you need on the other... but you can't move it there... However, by pressing R you can restart the current level. The game can be paused by pressing P and abandoned by pressing 3 and 4 together." 1 " Let's see if you can complete all 144 levels without using a password! ","" 1 " Don't forget that you can use the Sinclair option and still use the keyboard: the keys 6, 7, 9, 8 and 0 correspond to left, right, up, down and fire respectively. Now for the game itself. Upon selecting Start, you will be asked for a password: just press ENTER to start at level 1 (of 144). You will be presented with a set of tiles linked by pathways." 1 " Also shown is the currently selected controls (icon is highlighted in yellow) and the currently selected graphics set, with one of the tiles shown above. To see the other tiles in the set, use left and right. The keyboard controls are O (left), P (right), Q (up), A (down) and M (fire/select)." 1 " A cursor is shown around the centre tile position, and can be moved anywhere in the playing area (with fire released). To move a tile, place the cursor over it, hold down fire, and move in the required direction - but only along a pathway. When two (or more) identical tiles are linked by pathways, they, and the pathways linking them, will disappear." 1 " ~ You know, I think I've gone on long enough. Oh well. I'll go on a bit longer then. Waffle waffle waffle waffle waffle. There. Now I'll let this message repeat. ","" 1 " ~ This game has been lying around untouched for over three years (I wrote it in July/August 1992), until something prompted me to transfer it to my A3010 so that I could distribute it to all and sundry. Hope you like it..." 1 " ~ Some of you will remember the old days, back in the early to mid 80s, when Ultimate was, well, ultimate, most people who had computers had Sinclair computers, people could write some silly game in BASIC and get thousands for it, and Sir Clive was well-known." 1 " ~ One of my favourite pastimes is having a swipe at the PC stranglehold. Why the rest of the world can't see sense and buy Acorn instead I don't know... ;-)" 1 " ~ Oh yes. This game was written on a Spectrum +3, using no utilities except Melbourne Draw (sprites as a screen file), Artist 2 (title page and game screen), and the Multiface toolkit (writing the game itself). Not an assembler in sight and it's STILL in machine code. The coding would have been very well structured but for a few minor patches I made to correct a few minor bugs. And why were Amigas being advertised in Spectrum magazines?" 1 " ~ Oh no don't go away yet, there's lots more." 1 " ~ Just think. In the ten minutes or so it takes you to read this message, you could have been playing the game. Speaking of games, those of you with +3s and some Z80 programming experience will no doubt find it easy to convert tape multi-load games to disk multi-load games. I know for a fact that these games can be converted: Gauntlet 3, Lemmings, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Myth, Pang, and Turbo the Tortoise. I won't say how. Yes I did buy them." 1 " ~ If you are playing this on an emulator, then you are missing out on playing it on a real Spectrum!" 1 " ~ If you are playing this on a 48K Spectrum, then you are missing out on the music!" 1 " ~ I do other things as well, such as wear Saturday best, drink a bottle of Brown Ale, and watch NUFC. In that order, on a Saturday afternoon, Wednesday evening or whenever Sky deems 'suitable'." 1 " ~ Given the money, I'd buy myself an Acorn Risc PC 700 with Wolfenstein, Darkwood, Artworks, Impression Publisher, etc etc etc (and some hardware). And I'd still keep my Spectrum, BBC Master, and colour printer." 1 " ~ Friends, Romans and countrymen... WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!!!" 1 " ~ Are there any vegetarians reading? Good. Then I'll tell you all that I like eating dead cow, dead pig, dead sheep, dead fish, dead chicken, dead turkey, and dead parrot (how did that get there!?) and I'm not going to stop no matter what you try." 1 " ~ And now the long-range weather forecast. It will be hot and sunny, cloudy, wet and possibly thundery, snowing, calm and bright, and there will also be gale force winds from the north. But you won't notice as you'll be too busy playing this game. Or even reading this message. Or jumping on the spot and shouting ""I'm slightly manic!""" 1 !GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG@EFDFDFDFDFDFDFDEEFDFDFEEDFDFDFDEFPWWWWWWWWWWWWPDF 1 kkZZZZVVVVtttteeeekkkkZZZZVVVVt@k 1 Have a nice hack!!! 1 FOR LEVEL 1) 1 tqqqqqqqqqqqu 1 shijh klmnoks 1 sabca dcefgds 1 pqqqqqqqqqqqr 1 ` ((h((((((00p00000088x888888GG
